Florianópolis, The Island of Magic, has many attractions in store for all.

The Capital city of Santa Catarina State is full of natural beauty. Its 431 square kilometers include wonderful beaches, sand dunes, mountains, waterfalls, rocky cliffs and other smaller islands.

With its warmer sea water, the northern part of the island was the first to offer tourist resorts, and it still has better infrastructure. Canasvieiras and Ingleses beaches are great options there.
On the eastern coast are the best beaches, if you are looking forward to practice radical sea sports, mainly on Joaquina and Mole.
The southern tip of the island offers peace and quiet. There is a specially wild and isolated spot you will definitely want to visit: Lagoinha.

The island is a perfect place for the ones who like adventure, and radical sports are one of its highlights: you can do surfing, skating, windsurfing, sailing, parascending, flying delta wings, mountainbiking or sandboarding on the Joaquina dunes.

The original settlers of the island came from the Azores and even today the locals still speak Portuguese with a very definite Azorean accent. The really typical ones are called "Manezinhos da Ilha" (true original islanders). They speak very fast, in a distinctive sing-song way.
The original settlement of the island began in 1673, when the Portuguese pioneer Francisco Dias Velho arrived.

Nowadays, the island landscape is still made up by fishermen sewing their fishing nets, women lacemakers handicrafting extremely beautiful lace patterns, and tourists that come from all over the world just to see it all and to taste the exquisite flavours of the "Seqüência
de Camarão" (a real parade of delicious typical shrimp dishes), and, of course, to enjoy all the other natural beauties the island has to offer.
